Styles lost in IE 9 with many pictures in blog view

Post by gstockinger »

Hi,

I use Phoca-Gallery-Plugin to show a picture for each article in blog view. When I have more than about 10 entries on the same page Internet Explorer 9 just drops all styles and I get a "plain view" layout without displaying my Joomla Template. This does not happen with other browsers such as Firefox. To see what I mean try these links with IE 9:

1) pfadis.wrneudorf.at/wiwoe.html
2) pfadis.wrneudorf.at/wiwoe-2.html

The only difference: In the first page I have limited the link section to 10 entries, the second is unlimited.

Maybe there is some kind of overflow happing in IE 9, because what I noticed is that there are lots of style entries in the main page for each plug-in picture:

Code: Select all

  <style type="text/css">
 .pgplugin40 {border:1px solid #e8e8e8 ; background: #fcfcfc ;}
 .pgplugin40:hover, .pgplugin0.hover {border:1px solid #990000 ; background: #f5f5f5 ;}
 </style>
When I save the page locally and remove most of these entries from the page source code manually than it works again. By the way: Phoca Gallery creates those styles unnecessarily also for pictures not displayed at all (because they are just part of articles in the link section).

Im am using Component version 3.2.3 and plugin version 3.2.0, my browser is MS Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 with Windows 7.

Obviously this is some kind of bug ...

Thank you,
Gerald

Hi, it is known issue - in the non standard browser, there is some limit for displaying the styles so in fact to display the plugin instances more times you are not able in IE - you need to have less plugin instances on one site or ignore non standard browsers :-(

Is there any workaround on this problem at all? Seeing as it breaks the page I'm working on quite hard, and what seems to be the options REALLY aren't looking all that tempting. Either work with a different gallery instead of phoca (changing it would be a major pain as it probably around 1000 images or so in hundreds of articles) or get rid of the current blog layout in some way, cutting number of articles per page drasticlly?

From a little testing I'd would belive that its failing when reaching 8 instances, 7 seems to work fine. And it of course applies using phoca to insert single images as well, wich drags me down a bit further as I've used that for quite some articles where I just wanted 1-3 images from a specific gallery. That bumbs instances to 3 for that article, a few of thoose and your down to very few articles/page. :(

This leads me I guess to make a whole bunch of new phoca categories/galleries to try and make sure I at least limit it to 1 instance/article, but even just that is quite a bit of work. :x But at least that would allow for 7 articles/page (asuming every article has images, not all do but with a large amount I guess I'm bound to get 7 with images in a row on some page so going above that would brake some page somewhere).

Update:
I manage to actually work around it. At least it worked for me. Make sure you have "Enable Custom CSS" set to "No", at least that did the trick for me getting rid of a ton of code. Yes I lost a bit of styling but then just fixed most of it up with adding styling in my default.css.

So for me, problem solved atm. :twisted:
