Parent category accidentally assigned to multiple categories

I accidentally assigned a parent category to multiple categories when I was in multiple add. Instead of choosing my category and uploading the photos, I think what I did was checked the button that lets you select all your uploaded photos at once to add to your category, but it was actually selecting multiple categories, and then I assigned it to a category. So now I have lots of categories, containing lots of photos, that are all assigned to a parent category. I stopped thumbnail creation when I saw that it was trying to create more than 1,000 thumbnails, and I turned off the parent category, but now I can't create thumbnails because it wants to finish creating the 1,000 thumbnails.

What should I do? Should I delete the parent category or will that delete all my photos? I definitely don't want to have to reupload a year's worth of photos. Should I just let it finish creating the thumbnails, since I have the parent category turned off?

Also, when it assigned my categories to the parent category, it changed all the titles of my galleries to be the titles of my folders where the pictures are located. Once the parent category is turned off, the titles are viewable. Will that still be true if the parent category is deleted?

Hi, if you run Joomla! 2.5, you can let the thumbnail creation process to make the rest of thumbnails and then move/copy the images to other category.
