Need help understanding IMAGES and Thumbnails

Post by Klementz »

I am confused by the thumbnails, detail images, and original images.

I uploaded a bunch of images that are typically 800 px wide by 600 px high (to use a landscape example). In Options, on the Main tab, I have Large image set to 640x480. (The medium and small thumbnails are set to 100x100 and 50x50.)

Phoca has created three images in the thumb folders: The small and large thumbnails, plus 800x600 pixel "thumbnails".

Questions:

1. Why are the large thumbnails bigger than the setting? Shouldn't they be 640x480 as per the setting?

2. Why do I need those large thumbnails? I am using Shadowbox for the detail image, and it shows this large thumbnail. At no point does the original uploaded image get displayed. (Plus, the so-called large thumbnails are actually bigger files than the original uploaded images, which I have already optimized for web viewing.)

Thanks

hi,
1. they should have the size as set in the options -> did you change the thumbnail size after creating the thumbnails? if so: https://www.phoca.cz/documents/2-phoca-g ... w-resizing

2. the original image is never displayed, it's used to create the 3 thumbnails and for other operations (eg rotating) and it can be download vie the download button.
the bigger file size is probably a result of your settings (thumbnail quality while generating the thumbnails)

I thought I had created the thumbnails fresh (it is a migrated site), but now that I think about it... I think I did transfer the folders over complete.

2. It would be nice if there was an option to not generate the large thumbnail and use the original image instead. That would cut the image file count by 25%, and avoid one-third of the thumbnail generation procedure.

Thanks
