Gallery Image Module only working within the gallery

I have Gallery 3.1.5 & Gallery Image 3.1.6 installed (previously I was on about 3.1.2 & 3.0.5 or something)

I have a module on my web site (http://slroc2.co.uk/) which displays some random images from the collection of galleries I have set up.
Until recently, this has worked just fine.

The image-gallery sub-editor has alerted me to the fact that this module is no longer working... and indeed, it is not:

The module loads random images just fine, however any time you click on the image to view the full record, you get an error:

404 - Category is unpublished or does not exist
You may not be able to visit this page because of:

1) an out-of-date bookmark/favourite
2) a search engine that has an out-of-date listing for this site
3) a mistyped address
4) you have no access to this page
5) The requested resource was not found.
6) An error has occurred while processing your request.

If difficulties persist, please contact the System Administrator of this site and report the error below..

What is stranger is that this error occurs on any page EXCEPT when the user is within the gallery!

Given that the only changes I'm aware of are:
1) The HikaShop Paypal plugin has been enabled, and
2) We're up to 67 galleries
.... neither of which should make a difference.

This did work, now doesn't.... any suggestions as to where to look?

Benno, thanks for this.

What seems to be the trigger is what the "Menu Item Type" is set to:

If it is "List of Categories (Categories View)", then it all works just fine.
If it is "List of Images (Category View)", then it fails.

The distinction, for me, is that the first one lists ALL the categories (and sub-categories) on the one page, while the second just displays the single level of categories... which is a much nicer format.

The fake menu seems to make no difference here (unless I'm not supposed to show it - which I'll try this evening)

Hi,
if you create e.g. a hidden menu with a "List of Categories (Categories View)" menu item, you can create as much visible "List of Images (Category View)" menu items, as you like. (e.g. for every category) and it will work with Phoca Gallery Image Module.

OK - got it now!

What I have done is:

1) Make new menu (I copied "main menu" and called the new one "fake menu")
2) In this fake menu, I have made a menu item which is of type "List of Categories (Categories View)" - status = published; name can be anything; and everything else is set as defaults.
3) In my "main menu", which is the one I have displayed on my site, I have a link for the galleries which is "List of Images (Category View)"

The "Fake menu" isn't actually plugged into the interface anywhere, the menu item within it never appears anywhere.... however it is the magic trick that means the real "Main Menu" can do what it wants, and the gallery plugin will also do what it wants.
