Error Building Admin Menus

I have just installed Phoca Gallery 3.1.1 on my Joomla 1.7.3 development site and received the following error message.
"Error Building Admin Menus". The Phoca Gallery Control Panel is not accessible from Joomla Administration.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but got the same result. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi there,

This isn't a phoca specific problem, I've seen it happen on a couple of extensions and believe it's related to problems during the initial install of Joomla.

A quick workaround is to visit the URL directly, so for phocagallery just put /administrator/index.php?option=com_phocagallery after your domain in the URL bar of your browser. However this is cumbersome.

The only way I found of getting around it is a re-install of joomla. Luckily this happened to me early on in setting up this particular site. There may be more elegant solutions, check google

thank you for your reply i guess it's a joomla-problem, too. i even checked googel, but i don't find any solution for this problem

Thanks for the suggestion although I am already using the work around you have suggested. It is highly unsatisfactory.
Google has no solution to offer. I guess I will try the joomla forums. But....
I have installed many other extensions on this instance and have not had this problem before. I am much too far along the path to start over. Are you sure this problem is not a phoca gallery issue. I have to admit I'm sceptical.
