Jan friend okay?
You see, I installed version 3.0.2 and Phoca gallery Portuguese translation in Brazil did not work.
I've had to upgrade to version Joomla! 1.5, but later version of Joomla! 1.6 and Joomla! 1.7 my language files did not work anymore. Even installed the Brazilian Portuguese language pack available for Joomla! 1.6 and did not work.

Have you removed your old language pack first. Probably it's overwriting the new one. So doublecheck if all files have bee deleted (probably you have to do it manually).
