After several hours still getting no folder error

I have combed through the forums trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. Followed the directions at this link:

and STILL cannot upload photos from the front end. I keep getting the same error:

"Defined User Folder Does Not Exist" (even though I can see that it has been created in FTP.

I am creating the link to the folder as follows:

'images/phocagallery/Dirty-Dog-Contest'

I also tried it as 'images/phocagaleery/Dirt-Dog-Contest/'

and that didn't work.

I have the menu going to a category page layout and that category is chosen. In the parameters I have matched up everything as stated in the doc. What else do I need to do? Need to get this running.

I'm a bit of a newbie on front end upload, but I would suggest using your FTP client to delete the folder, then create the new category on the front end. When you then upload your first photo into the category the folder will be created. At least, that's how I think it works. Good luck!

Hmmm, I've been working with Joomla for quite awhile with probably 80 different components, but I have to admit this component has me lost. I am not seeing any place to add categories from the front end. The new user I created only shows up in the global users but not in the phoca users, and the image I tried uploading does not show up in media manager despite the fact that I listed the folder.

Is there added functionality I need to incorporate? Modules or other extensions?

Set up your menu. Navigate to front end menu.

I had already done that before. Same error. Any other ideas?

Do you think my path is incorrect somehow? I can see the 'Dirty-Dog-Contest' folder inside of 'images/phocagallery/' so I'm just not sure what else to do.

To sort this out, go to Categories | Your root category | Owner = new user. Set the other 3 rights parameters to new user as well for now.

Now, if I've understood you correctly you are trying up upload images into a pre-existing folder using the front end. So, assuming you are using Joomla 1.5, after logging in as "new user" and navigating to the menu you created previously using:
Menu | New | Phoca Gallery | Phoca Gallery User Control Panel Layout
... you should see a form with 4 tabs: User, Main Category, Sub-categories and Images. Yes?
On the User tab is there a Main Category set? What is it? Does it look correct to you?

If I am in the right spot, there is no option for 'new user'. I have gone to the phoca gallery componenet > categories > my category name

From there I see a multi-field choice for 'owner'. The choices are:

- Nobody -
Administrator
Jadee77 (username I had used to try to upload)

This option has been set to '- Nobody -' so far.

So the username does show up there in the 'owner' field but when I go to 'users' the username is not listed there. The only one listed in 'users' (in the component) is 'administrator'.

And yes, I'm using Joomla 1.5.

Sorry, I have never ever spent this long trying to get a component to work. I'm usually pretty quick at this stuff, but this just really isn't working still.

I think I may have finally gotten this working. I still am not even sure what I did. I did create a new category from the front-end and deleted everything else and then went through setting a few at a time to get it working. Crossing my fingers that it's really going to stay working.

I have one more issue but since it's somewhat unrelated, I'll search and then do a new post if needed.

Sounds like you got this sorted, but for the record, when I said "new user" I was just echoing the terminology you had used in an earlier post. Sorry for the confusion.

Given that you had said that you could not see the user in the Phoca User menu, that looked like the root cause. You probably just needed to set this up correctly:

Categories | "Your root category" | Owner = "your user". Set the other 3 rights parameters to "your user" also.
