how do you get multiple add automatically create a category

The documentation says:
"You can use multiple adding instead of creating category and adding one image into the category:

Go to: Components » Phoca Gallery » Images » and click on [Multiple Add] button. Now you are in Phoca Gallery [Multiple Add]. You can select the images or folder you want to add to the gallery here. If you select a folder and this folder contains subfolders and images, Phoca Gallery creates Category from selected folder, Subcategory from included subfolder and adds all the included images into this Category (Subcategory)."

When I click on "multiple add" I get a screen that asks me to select a category. Also, if I browse a folder to select images, I can select ONLY ONE at a time. There is nothing there that I see that will automatically create a category, nor is there a way to upload an entire folder of images at one time. What I'm seeing does not match what they're saying in the documentation.

So do I have to manually create EACH CATEGORY and upload each image one at a time? If this is the case, this software will not work for me.

In playing around now I see that:
1. you need to upload all your images first into the images/phocagallery folder
2. you need to go to "images" and press "multiple add." From there you need to select the folder and then press save. The software should generate a category with images.

It worked once with one folder of images and one category and couldn't get it to work again. No error message. I'd press save and it sent me back to the list to the list of images with the message that 0 categories were created. I tried many times to no avail.
