What is the best way to handle images that are portrait orientation? The thumbnail generation seems to be pretty dumb and just resizes to the default settings (which is set up for landscape photos). What is the best way to handle this? It has to be a common issue...
Thanks

Re: Portrait Thumbnails
Hi,
if your landscape style image is eg. 800X600pix and your portrait style is eg. 600X800pix, your detail window should be 800X800pix.
For me this settings works perfect:
backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Phoca Gallery Control Panel --> Parameters --> Thumbnail Creation Settings -->
Pagination Thumbnail Creation=Yes
Clean Thumbnails=No
Enable Thumbnails Creation=Yes
Crop Thumbnail=None(this is important)
JPEG Quality=90
backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Phoca Gallery Control Panel --> Parameters --> Images and Windows Size Settings -->
Large Image Width=800
Large Image Height=800
Medium Image Width=100
Medium Image Height=100
Small Image Width=50
Small Image Height=50
Save your settings!
Delete your old thumbs and create them with this settings new.
Kind regards,
Benno

Re: Portrait Thumbnails
Do you have a demo site that I can see how this looks? Just from looking at your settings, what I'm worried about is getting a big window with lots of blank space on the majority of my (landscape) pictures.
I will try it when I get a chance.

Hey Benno,
Looks good...that's exactly what I'm going for myself. Awesome pictures too by the way!
One thing that I really want to use for my site that you seem to have set up differently is the title text for the pictures in detail view. My text is left justified and a dark gray color which is hard to read. How did you center yours and make it bright?

Re: Portrait Thumbnails
Okay so the thumbnail sizes and creation worked out great! Did exactly what I was hoping for.
However, the title text still looks the same. In reviewing the setting you linked that deals with the description text itself, not the title text. In fact, I can't find any parameters that talk about the title text. Got any other ideas?
Here's a link to my site so you can see what I'm talking about.

Most of the site isn't built in this joomla install yet, just focusing on the gallery right now.

Re: Portrait Thumbnails
I tried adding html tags to get the text to look like how I wanted and that didn't seem to work. It just ignored them. There must be a setting somewhere...

Re: Portrait Thumbnails
Hi,
I just tested out that the title orientation changed, when I install an other Template. This means that the Title style and perhaps the text too, can be changed in your Template css.
Kind regards,
Benno

I've never changed or messed with the phoca template. Do you know what folder that is stored in by default? Is it somewhere in the joomla/components/com_phocagallery/ maybe?
