No, there is not this behaviour, you cannot upgrade... All works with copying files :
I did this solution (only for Phoca Gallery yet, Phoca Guestbook will be the next)
If user install the component, he can select:
- install (new tables will be installed)
- upgrade (no new tables will be installed, old data will be used)
Before upgrading user must uninstall the old component. This uninstalling doesn't remove data from database but user will be inform that he can delete them manually...
No other way yet, because Joomla! doesn't know upgrading (or nobody from development doesn't answer me )

But the solution you're suggesting is sufficient
When (re-)Installing your component the web-administrator then will have the choice NOT to delete the old database THAT WOULD BE GREAT !!!!
Thanks in advance
Cheerio, Erwin

Dear Jan,
Dear Jan,
I did not have the time to re-install a new version (you allready built 1.3 now!), but finally i had the time to do it...
You're update script does work perfectly ...
Thank s very much for that!
Cheers, Erwin
P.s. The title should have been "1.1.1 to 1.1.4" .... This is an old message
