Outgoing Email Encrypted?

When a user enters a comment in the Guestbook and an email is sent to the administrator email address set up in the component and on the Joomla global configuration, is the outgoing email and the email account name/password encrypted for sites which do not use a SSL certificate? Or is this immaterial if the SMTP email server (Gmail in my case) uses SSL encryption? I want to ensure hackers can not sniff out the password for the email account I have set up under Joomla's Global Configuration / Server settings. Thank you!

Hi, this depends on your Joomla! global settings. The mail is sent by Joomla! and their settings - there you can set if mails will be sent with SSL or TLS or not.
