Search and Tag Individual Images

Post by sohopros »

Does PG support tagging individual images? Ideally, we would like to populate images within projects within Categories. EG:

Category 1
Project 1
Image 1 (with tag 1, 2, 3)
Image 2 (with tag 2, 4)
Image 3 (with tag 3, 5, 6)
Project 2
Image 4 (with tag 1, 2)
Image 5 (with tag 2, 3)
Image 6 (with tag 4, 5, 6)
Category 2
Project 3
Image 7 (with tag 1, 2, 3)
Image 8 (with tag 2, 4)
Image 9 (with tag 3, 5, 6)
Project 4
Image 10 (with tag 1, 2)
Image 11 (with tag 2, 3)
Image 12 (with tag 4, 5, 6)

Then when a visitor enters a tag, or a tag within a Category, it would bring up a gallery of the images matching that tag. Then after clicking on an image, a larger version of the image would be displayed along with thumbnails of the other images within its associated Project.

We would also like to use the Joomla Smart Search to search for keywords within the images' Title and Description that would bring up a gallery of the images matching the search phrase. Then after clicking on an image, a larger version of the image would be displayed along with thumbnails of the other images within its associated Project.

Hope that is clear. Thanks!

Hi,

Phoca Gallery uses very simple system of tags, such can be assigned to each image and when clicking on tag, the list of all images including this tag will be displayed. This is all.

For more advanced filtering and using of tags, etc. it is better to use Phoca Cart (which can work as gallery too).

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like either Phoca Gallery or Phoca Cart and do the first part of what I posted:
"when a visitor enters a tag .... it would bring up a gallery of the images matching that tag".

But if the visitor is viewing images within a Category, it is not possible to view only the images within that Category with matching tags.
It is also not possible to assign images to a "Project" within a category and view the thumbnails of other images within the Project while viewing a main image.

Please let me know if this is correct?

Can Phoca Cart do these last two things?

Hi, in Phoca Gallery, if a tag is set, then it displays all the images with this tag, in Phoca Cart, you can do combinations of filters, so you can fiter images by tag and specific category, see here:
https://www.phoca.cz/jtd/

In Phoca Cart, there is a feature called "related products", so when you see detail of product, you can see related products (images) too.

Took a look at Phoca Cart and, since this is an e-commerce package on the scale of Virtuemart, our concern is that using it as an image gallery would put us in a position of using 10% of the extension's capability (and code), but having the complexity and maintenance costs associated with 100% of the capabilities/code. It looks powerful, but scary big when compared to our requirements. We will consider it, though, but wishing we could find something simpler.

Hi, OK, mostly it depends on how you work with such extension. In Phoca Cart, e.g. in administration, you can hide everything with CSS, etc. so at the end the extension looks very simple but it works for the users 100%. E.g. administrators prepare for users only e.g. one or two form field to fill in administration and then the administration looks very simple for the users, etc. Even the frontend can look very simple: https://www.phoca.cz/stockphoto/4-barcelona (the complexities that are hidden in the code can be the same for both the gallery extension and the ecommerce extension).
