how to install language ?

Post by dotcom22 »

Sorry Jan..just a stupid question..

I try desperately to install french language for phocagallery and I have try a lot things without success...You propose french pack with 2 file fr-FR.com_phocagallery.ini and fr-FR.com_phocagallery.menu.ini . I see in folder Administrator/component/com_phocagallery/language a folder "en-GB" are present...so I have try to simply upload french folder but nothing change..I have try also to rename file in en-GB with french contain and no change...After I see inside Joomla language folder this 2 file are allready present but gallery are always not in french...and if I delete this 2 file gallery are always in english....I dont' understand... :x :x :x

Please can you help ?? How I must do ? I hav esearch in forum but not find anything...

Other thing...if am not wrong translation are only valid for front ent and maybe part of backend...It appear Configuration backend are always in english and are displayed trough XML file config.xml...So if If I want also translate this part I must translate this xml file ?

thanks in advance...

Hi,

First of all: you must have a French Joomla! translation installed.

If you want both frontend and backend to be in French you must upload the 2 files to

administrator/language/fr-FR (for the backend)
language/fr-FR (for the frontend)

Both fr-FR folders must be there, if they're not there, then you must install a French languagepack for Joomla!.
To have everything in French you must go to the language manager (extension >> language manager) and set the default language to French.

I hope this helps you

beautiful thank a lot Carolien now it work

In fact am new to Joomla 1.5...I have work for 1 years on version 1.0 and language are not managed in same manner...I don't have see folder "language" are present at root and inside folder "administrator"...and other folder inside "com_phocagally" confused me....

Last point...you say "First of all: you must have a French Joomla! translation installed." that mean I must install a translated version of joomla available on joomla.fr ?? In fact I have a normal version but with french enabled Site and Admin part....If am not wrong the most useful thing on 1.5 are the fact we are no more obligate to install fully translated version for who want Admin translation in his language....Maybe can be useful for get Sample Data in french...or not ? Thanks for make clarifications...

Las last point  ...I just install Gallery search plugin and when install it a message tell me install of language DE was not possible....I have take a look and it appear only 1 value are translated for this plugin..it is "PHOCAGALLERY=Picture Galleries"...So is not a big deal I can translate it and make .ini file in french but I don't see where this value must be displayed...In admin or front end ? in witch place ? If I make a search with plugin enabled I see "Phocagallery" check box are present..and confirm that plugin are enabled...It is possible to rename this value by putting for example "Photos Gallery" ???

Cheers

I mean that you need to have joomla translated in french for both front and backend. You already have, otherwise you couldn't enable it in the Site and Admin part. If you don't have, the folders fr-FR don't exist in [root]/administrator/language and [root]/language

If I were you I would search the en-GB folders in both the language as the administrator/language folder for the corresponding .ini file. Translate this file and rename to fr-FR.name.ini and put this in the fr-FR folders. You should see the difference somewhere (I think).

Good luck!
