Phoca Gallery doesn't create thumbnails or images

Hi,
I've been reading this forum and seeing that some people are finding that they have problems getting PG to create thumbnails but none of the solutions mentioned seem to fix my problem.

I've had PG 2.1.0 RC installed for some time on a Joomla 1.5.8 site with no problems whatsoever. We have several galleries set up some with quite large images and everything's been fine.

However, now if we try to make a new category of images we just get white thumbnails and also white full size images.
I've tried uploading the images via the Joomla Flash Uploader component and also via FTP and still no joy.

Woul anyone be able to shed any light on why this is happening?

How can I check if there is enough space?

Does Phoca Gallery make copies of images and put them in another folder for it's own use?
The folder that I put my images in have 777 permissions.

Hi, you should ask you webhosting operator, how much place you can use? Phoca Gallery doesn't create copies of images, it only creates 3 thumbnails of the image.

However I have unlimited webspace (and that really does mean unlimited). I run lot of other sites bigger than this and don't have any problems.

Would you have any other ideas why PG is suddenly not working correctly? This is a live site and my client isn't too pleased with me!

Hi,

could you check the thumbs folder in the folder where you put your images in? This folder has to be available and writable, which is at least 755 (and if that doesn't work try 777).

I don't know if it works, but could you check the parameters (components > phoca gallery > control panel > parameters button), for the upload settings, quite far down the line. There is a setting of maximum kB per category (which is used in frontend upload only, afaik). Could you check if that's bigger than the current folder. Try to increase it a lot and see if it works then.

Check again if 'automatic thumbnails creation' is set to yes.

Hi Carolien, thanks for your post.

I've gone in to parameters and it looks like the 'enable thumbnail creation' button was switched off.
I definitely didn't do this and I doubt that my client did.

However, I've switched it back on and things seem to be working now.

Hi, after clicking on this link, the process will be stopped but the automatically thumbnail creation will be stopped too. It is because Phoca Gallery automatically creates thumbnails and if there is some problem this automatized task needs to be disabled. After the problem is removed it can be enabled again. So disabling the functin while clicking on the link is OK. This is a feature.

I'm running 2.2.2 and had the no image/thumbnail prob too. I found my "Thumbnail creation" flag set to "No" but I have no recollection of changing this setting.
