Phoca Gallery + SEO instructions not working

Hi guys,
I know this issue has been through the forums quite a bit and I am sorry for another similar post. I have tried the methods highlighted in the documentation and through the forums.

First I will explain what I have done and the specs of the server.

Basic Server info: BSD Unix, PHP 5.2.9, MySQL 5.0.45
Phoca Gallery: 2.5.8
Joomla 1.5.15

I had to use a manual installation of phoca gallery due to ftp issues with the simple install. All is working fine on both front end and back end. I can upload, categorize, and view the gallery.

If I switch to SEO friendly URLs from the Joomla Parameters section (core SEO feature, not plugin SEO feature) . The gallery will look strange and will cause 404's on clicking the thumbnail.

I have tried to add both public and registered level menu items pointing to the component in both the main menu and a separate menu item. Also using external links to the standard gallery link with the item id included. Those work of course, but aren't the SEO friendly link and don't go further than the first page. Even though they are in the menu their seo friendly counterpart does not work.

I'm sure that it is me missing a step or misreading what Jan has written.

These are the steps I have tried:
1:
Menu Manager -> Edit Menu Items (from the desired menu) -> New -> select Phoca Gallery -> under All Categories I select Phoca Gallery Category List Layout -> name + access Level -> save

2:
Menu Manager -> Edit Menu Items (from the desired menu) -> New -> select Phoca Gallery -> External Link -> title -> Link: index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=categories&Itemid=7 ->save
(I also tried with full URL)

3:
Menu Manager -> Edit Menu Items (from the desired menu) -> New -> select Phoca Gallery -> External Link -> title -> Link: components/com_phocagallery/ ->save
(I didn't hold much hope for this one as it didn't have the item id)

Please help me sort this out ^_^

Hey Jan,
I solved it, it was my .htaccess not configured properly. When I was going to replicate it for you I found that other pages weren't doing what they were supposed to. So I added my site to the $livesite variable in configuration.php and changed my htaccess file.
Now it works great.
