How to remove Perfume / Cologne from Spandex / Lycra

Do not reach for a rag and start scrubbing yet. Blot — do not wipe the perfume / cologne from the spandex / lycra, working from the outside edge of the stain inward so it cannot spread any further. The alcohol evaporates fast but can leave a faint ring from the oils that carry the fragrance, and the elastane fibers lose their stretch permanently if exposed to high heat or harsh solvents.

Step by step
- Test first: dab your chosen agent on a hidden corner of the spandex / lycra and wait 2–3 minutes to confirm no discoloration.
- Dish soap: mix a few drops with cold water into a light suds.
- White vinegar: mix one part vinegar with two parts water.
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry the surface fully so no residue film is left behind.
Do not do this
- Direct iron contact. Always use a paper towel barrier or you will spread melted wax further.
- Rubbing the spot. It pushes the stain deeper and spreads it outward.
- Any heat source (iron, hair dryer, tumble dryer). Heat on spandex / lycra can bond the stain permanently or warp the material.
