Is this real, live traffic data from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, etc.?
No - none of these companies publish a public, real-time "current load" feed. Offpeak estimates likely quiet and busy periods from each product's general regional user base and typical daily usage rhythms (morning/afternoon office use, evening consumer use). It's a well-reasoned guide, not a status dashboard.
Why would an AI assistant be "busier" at certain hours?
Usage tends to track when people are awake and working or browsing. When several of a product's major user regions overlap in their daytime or evening hours - say, US afternoon and European evening at once - combined demand tends to be highest. Early hours in all major regions at once tend to be quietest.
Does it account for where each AI company is actually based?
It accounts for where each product's users are concentrated, which matters more for demand than where the company is headquartered. DeepSeek, for example, is modelled with heavy weight on China and the rest of Asia; Copilot leans heavily on North American and European business hours.
Can this predict an actual outage?
No. Outages and slowdowns can happen at any time for reasons that have nothing to do with regional demand - a deployment, a hardware issue, a spike from one event. This tool only estimates typical demand patterns, not incidents. Check the provider's status page for that.
Is any of my data sent to a server?
No accounts, no tracking cookies. Offpeak looks up common cities from a small built-in list instantly; anything else is resolved through a public geocoding lookup called directly from your browser. All the estimation happens locally.
