How to remove Hair Gel / Pomade from Vinyl Flooring

Do not reach for a rag and start scrubbing yet. Scrape away the excess hair gel / pomade from the vinyl flooring, lifting solids off the surface without pressing them further in. A wax-and-polymer base that needs a solvent to break down before it will rinse out, and resists moisture well but can discolor if strong solvents sit on the surface.

Step by step
- Gather your materials before you start — set out everything so you are not searching mid-treatment.
- Dish soap: work a tiny amount into the spot on a barely-damp cloth, then wipe off immediately — do not saturate the material.
- Rubbing alcohol: dab with alcohol on a cotton pad, working from the edge in.
- WD-40 or a similar lubricant: spray lightly, wait a minute, then wipe from the outside in.
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry the surface fully so no residue film is left behind.
Do not do this
- Hot water as a first step. It spreads oil-based stains before they can be lifted.
- Rubbing the spot. It pushes the stain deeper and spreads it outward.
- Any heat source (iron, hair dryer, tumble dryer). Heat on vinyl flooring can bond the stain permanently or warp the material.
