Trying to upload pic

Trying to upload pictures from the front end using 1.8 beta, I get the message "User folder was not defined". I have a new category of "Your Photos" for people to use but it is not showing up on the website. What do I need to do to get pictures uploaded by my registered users?

You must set the folder, where the images will be uploaded...

I did find the user document helpful but I guess I am unclear on where the directory should be created.
I added the dir under the images/phocagallery/mydir and images/mydir but I still get the same error. "Defined User Folder Does Not Exist"
Anyone out there have an idea?

That is the way I understood the the doc. Create a dir, create a category, asaign a user to full permissions. But I have tried several different ways and I still get the same error.

Ok, I think I got it. I did try to add through the modal box but it never did anything. BUT I got it... Thanks for all the help.
I was assuming that when I set the directory that should be it.
So when I create a category I now set a directory that I created in images\phocagallery.
Then when I go to the gallery edit I do a multiple add and select the directory listed on the bottom and Wham it works!
