H-e-L-L-p! Google Image Search not Finding Art!

I'm relatively new to all this - I'm an artist, but I'm not necessarily an idiot with instructions. So teaching myself Joomla and templates and extensions, I've found phoca to be the most economic path toward displaying my art. It grows more rewarding every day after many others (galleries) have proven ridiculous wastes of time.

However - Google image search (removed disallow for images in robots) shows absolutely nothing from my site. (site:mikoarts.com). I have a sitemap.xml file in my root which I ping google with and I see the google image bot in my joomlawatch logs almost every day, but no results after 4 months using phoca.

robots.txt [check]
sitemap.xml [check]

I find it the bane of my online existence that a gallery with over 300 works of art doesn't show 1 image in G.I.search!

Have you tackled this problem with your or any other site? Are there any joomla art sites out there using phocagallery that have abundant results in google images search I can take notes from? I am thinking of creating a mass article page with like 300 of my paintings and hand-embedding alt tags for each, then seeing if google finds them, but it's not the most desirable if there's another way to resolve this dilemma. That was sort of the point of using a component gallery uploader/viewer such as this awesome software.

Happy New Year to you, and thanks in advance should you Jan or anyone else reading this find time to reply.

Hi, I don't know any restriction to display the images in the google image search :( No idea what should be done to be listed there (maybe some description so there are some search outcomes  )

Hi, in 2.6.2 there is new field meta description and meta keywords, so this field can be used for this e.g.

you can fill the meta description field for image and then load this field in e.g. category view and paste it as alt of the images.

We too are having this problem, nothing is showing up from our site in Google images, and we suspect it is the lack of alt-tag field, which is blank in the HTML on the catagory view pages.

Can you please detail what needs to be changed in the script in order to link the meta description field to the alt tags? Thank you so much for the great extension, as well!

So you are looking to place this in 2.6? I would much rather stick with Phoca than have to redo our entire gallery for a single thing. Even if the Alt tag is taken from the image title, that would be great.. if someone had a modification for that.. i don't know enough PHP to do it myself.

just to clarify this is the problem we are talking about, if you look in the HTML of any category page where the thumbnails are displayed:

Code: Select all

<img src="/images/phocagallery/products/windows/thumbs/phoca_thumb_m_window7.jpg" alt="" class="pimo" />
note that the alt= is blank. Google hates this when it comes to images. :)

Edit: I noticed from a older post last year you said that the Alt tag is taken from the filename of the image? This is no longer the case? None of my images have alt tags set...

Hi, the alt is planned:

Parameter - Alt
- Image name
- Description
- Meta Description

but there needs to be done some tests as some js methods can use this attribute.

Noticed this feature in 2.7. Thank you so much for implementing this! This should go a long way to helping those trying to get _ _ on google image.
