Configuration cannot be saved and error message appears.

Hello,
for the past few days we've been experiencing an error message where customers receive an error message after submitting their orders (see screenshot). It seems Phoca Cart is unable to access a directory on the server. We've checked this and found no server-side issues. We also notice the problem when we change settings in Phoca Cart's system configuration; the changes aren't saved. What could be causing this?
