Duplicate entry '1' for key 'PRIMARY'

After the successful update from Joomla 3 to 4, the error message "Duplicate entry '1' for key 'PRIMARY'" appears after trying to install Phoca Gallery. The www is not very helpful. Can anyone tell me how to fix this error.
Many other extensions could be installed without problems.

Hi, did you follow this guide:

This seems like new install tries to add new items into database but there are previous data which should not be there.
This can happen when Joomla system does not have any information and thinks that the component does not exist and install it instead of update
When you enable debug mode, do you get more information about the problem (e.g. which table it is, etc.)

Jan, thank you for pointing this out.
I have "cleaned" the database and reinstalled the component according to the description.
Now the this error message no longer appears.
