Hi,
How upload epub files? I have the message error:

The file type is not allowed - file cannot be uploaded

Try to add: to:
backend --> Components --> Phoca Download --> Control Panel --> Options --> Downloads --> Allowed File Types (Upload)
or use "Ignore File Types Checking" parameter. But it's not recommended, because of security reasons.
