Hi,
I just installed the guestbook, so far it looks good, very nice job.
When i tried to write the first message it didn't work.
Message was username exist, well ofcourse it exist, its me.
But what to do allow me to write a message?

i have this problem too

And are you logged on with this username? If not, how can Joomla! know that you are writing the message. If you are not logged on, Joomla! takes you as guest ... And if guest wants to write some message with your username, Joomla! tell him, that this username is used...

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your quick response. I do not log on, it is a new site, still under developement. The only users that exists are three administrators, of which i am one. When i try to enter a message with my own username i get this error.
Does this mean that an administrator cannot write in the guestbook?

Administrator can write messages, but he/she must be logged on ... Not logged user is a guest and cannot write messages as administrator... If you are not logged, you are guest. As guest you cannot use administrator's name. If you log in, you are administrator and you can use your name...

I have this problem too. I understand what you mean, but Gert-Jan not I suppose.
Maybe you have to say that Gert-Jan has to logon in the Frontend of the site to post messages in the guestbook!

[edit]isn't it possible to add the function when your not logged-in trough the frontend? So the admin user doesn't have to login at the frontend?[/edit]

Thank you both for explaining. When you log in to the back end you are not automaticly logged in to the front end.
I changed my username in the back end a little bit, so now i can write under my own name in the guestbook.

Having read the above, I still have some questions. Offcourse it's nice, that a logged on user gets his or her name filled in automatically. However for my site it would be more convenient, if the user is always treated as a "guest" regardless if he is logged in or not. On my site most information is public, except for some downloadable documents. So my visitors don't often log in, just if they want to get to those documents. If it would be possible to make the link between the existing Joomla! users and the Guestbook users somehow undone, the users can always (logged in or not) use their own credentials.

A second question would be, is it possible, to leave the name field completely blank (for now it says "guest" or the name of the logged in user). If the link between the Joomla! users and the auto-fill in the Guestbook can be undone, this should be possible aswell I think?
