Hi

I have a site with 3 languages. for each language I need a guestbook. How do I translate the strings Title, Content, Name, Guest in each language? I don't use joomlafish. Is there an easy way to overwright the english text in a file?

Hi,

install the translations of the Guestbook in Joomla! (Also install the website packages for the whole Joomla)

Regards, Carolien

P.S. those translations you can find in the download section. Unpack them and upload the xx-XX.com_phocaguestbook.ini file to the folder language/xx-XX where xx-XX is the languagecode of your language.

Say you've got English and German, then upload the de-DE.com_phocaguestbook.ini file to language/de-DE

Hello Caro

Thanks for your help! There is still something missing. Maybe you see the problem:

1) I installed the Phoca guestbook from the page https://www.phoca.cz/phocaguestbook
2) Then I created 3 guestbooks
3) I downloaded the de-DE.com_phocadownload.zip, unzipped it and copied with Filezilla the 2 files de-DE.com_phocadownload.ini and de-DE.com_phocadownload.menu.ini in the language folder de-DE in Language folder. I had to create the folder de-DE first.

Question) I refreshed the backend. How do i connect now each of my guestbooks to the language I want? Where and how do i do that?

Maybe i missed a step? the german language ist not visible in the language manager, only english. do I have to install something more? You said something about a website package. I think you mean the Phoca guestbook that i already installed, or is it something else?

Thanx

I'm a step further to solution:

Indeed I had forgotten to copy the official german language files to the "de-DE" folder.
Now I can switch the language of the guestbooks from english to french. But of course all guestbooks are in the same language.

The question is now: how can i attribute the german language to the german guestbook and the english language to the english guestbook?

Maybe someone has a hint?

Best regards
sib

??? Hi, this is automatically changed in the front... if there is e.g. german selected in the front, then de-DE.phocaguestbook.ini will be used, so german strings will be displayed...

Hi, i didn't use joomfish to translate site, since it was still a betaversion. so i used another method to switch language. I used a normal menu modul with 3 items: german , french, english.

now i saw that there exist plugins to display the language which is assigned to the page. but since i don't see a possibility to assign a language directly to a specivic phoca guestbook, that won't work.

any idea how this can be solved?

best regards

In the meantime I installed the joomfish stable version on my joomla 1.5.9 site.

english and german language is installed and also german translation for phoca guestbook. both languages are activated in joomfish.

in Joomfish , under TRANSLATION, I found my german guestbook. I opened it and tried to assign german for my german guestbook. It didn't work.

on the right side on the top there is this : State: No translation exists
and when i choose german following message appears:

This is saved in the database as a English (United Kingdom) translation

If you change the language to Deutsch (DE-CH-AT) and save the translation you will loose your existing English (United Kingdom) translation as it will be replaced by a Deutsch (DE-CH-AT) translation

Do you wish to proceed and change the language of this existing translation?

thanks for help
best regards

Hi, what you want to translate... Joomfish translates the content... but translation files translate the strings of component...

e.g.
Name, Author Name, Title, Captcha Code ... these strings are translated by translation files automatically...

if you want to translate the content (message) then joomfish is used...

Then just enable the languages for frontend and install (via FTP) the languages pack for Phoca Guestbook into your Joomla
