Categories page (frontend) - how many categories per page?

On the frontend categories page I would like to set how many categories are shown per one page. At the moment I have about 15 galleries (an I have maaaany more to come) and would like somehow to limit the number of categories shown, to a certain number, let's say 10 per page. So if somebody would like to look at the older galleries, they should use the pagination at the bottom of the page (which doesn't exist now!).
I couldn't find any solution to this "problem" in the parameters of the Phoca gallery.
Thank you for your help.

Hi, there is no pagination for categories view:
- you can create a category view, where the subcategories of main category will be listed categories
- or you can create a categories view where you will do a tree of categories and subcategories e.g. you will add there 5 main categories and other categories will work as subcategories...

So effectively, If I'll have 100 categories for galleries there will be 100 thumbnails + descriptions one below another on one page? :/
If I understand you correctly one possible sollution is to show only main categories, for example April 2008, and then after you click on it, all of the "april's" subcategories/galleries will appear on a new page?
I'll try that out ...
thank you for now

I tried the tree module, and found it is very intuitive and useful but at the same time ... not pretty ... it just doesn't fit nice with my page.
so I tried to do the other thing you recommended:
- you can create a category view, where the subcategories of main category will be listed categories
- or you can create a categories view where you will do a tree of categories and subcategories e.g. you will add there 5 main categories and other categories will work as subcategories...
but couldn't quite get the desired effect. What parameters do I have to change to get the effect at the frontend you mentioned above?
Thank you for your kind help.

it is not about parameters it is about your folder (category) structure
main category
- main subcategory 1
- subsubcategory 1
- subsubcategory 1
- main subcategory 2
- main subcategory 3
- main subcategory 4
then you will create link to main category and mainsubcategories will be displayed as categories

Thank you. I organized my pictures adding another parent category for all the existing categories (and with that for all of the subcategories).
But now I have problems with the frontend look :S
before the categories were shown like this
except they were in one column.
Now It looks like an album, with only thumbnails representing a category and without any description/category tree beside it.
I tried to configure it to look as on the picture above (in one column though) using information on
this page, but failed, miserably
Don't know what I'm doing wrong really, I even deleted the old menu item and created a new one, but still couldn't make it look as it was before adding the extra parent category (picture above) :/
please help?

hi, there are two views:
categories view
and
category view (categories, subcategories and images are displayed in the same boxes)
did you created the category view, if yes, there you don't get the same look as for categories view...

Sorry for interrupting your discussion

but I do have a similar problem according those categories as well: how do I show or better NOT show subcategories to only get those maincategories presented as thumbnails and to get to those subs by clocking on the main-thumbnails?
Thanx in advance for your answer(s)!!!

Ok, I switched to categories view and this is the way I want it to look. Except for the problem, exactly the same as Kiste's.
My category structure is in three levels as follows:
Main category
january 2009
gallery 1
gallery 2
december 2008
gallery 1
gallery 2
november 2008
gallery 1
gallery 2
gallery 3
...
october 2008
...
september 2008
august 2008
july 2008
...
And ALL are showing at the same time!
I want to have an entry page with only the months subcategories appearing and when the user would click on it, al the months subcategories/galleries would appear.
The reason why, is because I will add about 15 galleries each month and even now the first page would be HUGE to scroll down, and in about half a year probably unbearably big.
Is it possible to do that?
