Category Owner Workaround

Dear Phoca-team,

First of all I'd like to thank you for this wonderful component.

After spending some time on this message board I learned that it isn't possible for users to upload images - through the UCP - to pre-defined categories. I don't know if this is a functionality you're working on for a future release, but I was wondering if there's a workaround by editing the Phoca core files? In other words, is it possible to remove the category owner check in the UCP? If yes, what particular files need to be edited? I would understand if you're not that thrilled about people altering the core files, but for me it's pretty much vital that my users can upload images to all categories through the UCP.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

users can upload images to own categories in UCP or to all categories where they have upload rights in category view, see:

Yes, I read that solution in other topics, but my problem with that is that users don't have an overview of their images. That's why I would like my users to be able to upload images through the UCP, so they have a list of their images. Is their no way to alter the core files, so users don't need to create categories themselves?

Hi, if you will create a main category and you will set in administration that some user will be owner, then in UCP, the category is created and user only can upload images or add subcategories to this main category.

But you can only set one owner per category, right? A category can't have multiple owners, or am I missing something?

Thanks again for your help!

Hi, yes, only one owner but more users with permissions.
