I cant get images to open in a new window

Ok so im trying to open images in a new window or to make them be redirected to a new link in the same window, that way each picture click counts as a page view
how do i go about this?, i cant seem to make the clicks on each picture count as a page view, they just keep opening as a popup....i dont want them to open as a popup
