Front Page Upload form will not work

Hi,

I am new to phocagallery and joomla so ..........

I have created phocagallery categories and menu links as a SuperAdministrator and I can see that the menu works ok and the upload form is available for the registered user - in this case my user login - at the front end. Also I have created a test category for all registered members and some have also tried to upload.

We have all failed. The upload seems to start and then halfway through it jumps to 'Done' but no image has uploaded (checked in the back gallery). I can only upload through Media Manager. I also cannot upload in the back end through the gallery.

Any idea what may be wrong?

Hi Jan

Hope we're on to something here :)

I have Superadministrator permissions.

I go to global configuration... Server... and try to enable FTP under FTP Settings. It fails, I get this message in Red with No Entry sign

* JFTP::write: Bad response
* JFTP::delete: Bad response
* JFTP::write: Bad response

and this message in blue with ! sign

An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!

and I get this with Error reporting set to "maximum"

Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /hsphere/local/home/[our host name]/[our website URL]/libraries/joomla/factory.php on line 535

Note! The last message above also appears now at the top of the Main Page, the top of the Main Menu and the top of the User Menu :idea:

I tested other settings like SMTP authorisation and that saved ok.

hi, if you cannot use edit configuration file, try to download it and upload via FTP into the server (the ownership should be ok and you can change the settings then)... you need to enable ftp layer or change the folder permissions e.g. to 777 so you can write data into these folders...

Thanks for the reply Jan,

I am trying to get our website ftp login for the website where I can get to the files in the back. Can you give me a link to where I can find the instructions for setting permissions in the back-files? (you said "change folder permissions e.g. to 777....", I assume I must do that in a configuration file right back on the website and not through the Phocagallery configuration menu?))

Also, how do I get rid of that message :
"Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /hsphere/local/home/[our host name]/[our website URL]/libraries/joomla/factory.php on line 535"

which is now all over our site :x

I think, it is a php problem (Only variable references should), maybe php upgrade will help...

Permissions should be changed e.g. via FTP manager, see:

Thanks Jan,

I have an ftp client and managed our old simple HTML website with it. Unfortunately my HDD crashed about two months ago and I lost all my login details but I am trying to get that back now.

The link about file permissions looks useful....... fingers crossed.

I feel a bit of an idiot over the error messages, I had left the error reporting on Maximum. I set it to Default now and they have gone away. "Every day in every way I learn a little more......" :oops:

Thanks again, :|

Hmmm I've downloaded the configuration.php and changed $ftp_enable = '0' to $ftp_enable = '1' then uploaded it back where it came from.

In global configuration I can see that ftp enable = Yes now but front upload will still not work?

Next step? :)
