Delayed thumbnail creation.

Is it possible to have a delay in creating thumbnails when you upload a large number of photos at one time?
Example: I upload 100 photos. Then while processing the photos the software pauses for a minute after creating 25 or 50 thumbnails. Doing this would prevent the server from being bogged down and using more resources then permitted.
