Dear All,

first i would like the team that has developed phoca gallery specially that it is free of charge.

Guys you have made a great product thank your for the time that has been invested!

Now let us get back to the main topic:

i have a sport website running with phoca gallery:
now we have reached more than 70,000 images available
and more than 900 categories created.

This is causing some performance issues specially in the backend, it is very slow!
the image section in the backend takes around 2 to 3 minutes till it loads.

as on the front end the gallery is a little bit affecting the Mysql server performance and Some Apache Load.

i know this huge number of photos and categories is affecting the performance.

My question: is there is any way to optimize phoca performance so that it will be able to handle a high number of photos and serve a high traffic website.

PS: i forgot to mention it is a high traffic website. main sport news source in the middle east.

Hi, mostly images are not a problem - as pagination is used - so e.g. 20 images per page are loaded.

Displaying of categories is more problematic as category tree is needed to be created (this is common programming issue)

All this I have described in similar posts - try to search them on this forum.

Be sure:

- you have followed to set the recommended settings (see administration of Phoca Gallery - info page)
- see pagination settings
- set "special" for displaying images instead of category folder - in parameters, etc.

Does the Category tree affect as well the speed of publishing photos on the system?

Hi, while creating thumbnails the information about category is needed so yes, it can take some influence on it, because while loading the lists of images you need to check in which category the image belongs

any quick links in order to fix my problem?
i have tried searching the forum for optimizing the category tree inside phoca with no luck.
