I just installed PhocaGallery ( newest version, from here on phoca.cz) on a clean Joomla 1.5. I think this will work PERFECTLY for what I am trying to do. I just need to understand how to get the menu entries to look the way I want.

1. Albums
-----a single menu entry that goes to a page that shows all of the available albums

Workshop (a category with subcategories, tools, flute making, construction... etc) - parent is Albums

Saint Lucia ( a category containing subcategories, Sandals, Tours, food, etc...) ---parent is Albums

I think I am having a little difficulty figuring out what to CALL everything in order to see it organized in the way I want.

Should I create folders inside the images/phocagallery directory that correspond to my hierarchy? Like....

Should I create folders like this?

images/phocagallery/Workshop
images/phocagallery/Workshop/Tools
images/phocagallery/Workshop/Construction
images/phocagallery/Workshop/Flutes

images/phocagallery/StLucia
images/phocagallery/StLucia/SandalsGrande
images/phocagallery/StLucia/Tours
images/phocagallery/StLucia/Food

Creating menu entries:
Albums (parent is "Top") would be a Phoca gallery CATEGORY LIST LAYOUT and will show ALL galleries .... correct?

Now create a menu entry "Workshop".... this is where I get lost. I would like the Workshop menu entry to go to a page with only the galleries contained under the Workshop folder (tools, construction, flutes, etc...). Can it be done this way?

Or will a menu item of type "Phoca Gallery Category List Layout" always show ALL galleries.

PhocaGallery is really exactly what I want for my site. I just need to figure out how to get it in the menu the way I want it.

Thanks for making this extension. Some of us do not NEED the sideways scrolling strip where you can't see all of the photos. Phocagallery is REALLY a good solution.

You can create folders as you described and Phoca Gallery creates from this folders and subfolders categories and subcategories or you can do it manually.

Phoca Gallery Category List Layout displays all categories (and subcategories if you want).

Phoca Gallery Category Layout displays specific category

See https://www.phoca.cz/phocagallery/user-manual/ where you can see all what you can do with Phoca Gallery

AHHhhhhh.... wonderful. I think I am understanding. I uploaded my Saint Lucia photos and had them sorted into directories. This worked much better than expected and it works just as you said.

Now... when I go to my Albums menu entry... it is a Phoca Gallery Category List Layout... I see my main categories (I have turned off subcategories). Is it possible to have the category descriptions showing up on that page?

Also... when I go to Phoca Gallery Categories (Component -> Phoca Gallery -> Categories)... when I hover over a category, the tooltip popup says "Edit Phoca Guestbook Guestbook". It doesn't matter which category I hover...all tooltips say that same thing. I only installed Phoca Gallery. Not Guestbook.

And when I edit a Category... the editor is very narrow and to the left. I mean like... so narrow that not all of the editor buttons show. This does not happen when editing regular content articles. I use FCK editor.

AHH... I switched to TinyMCE2 editor and the tooltip problem went away and the editor is the correct size. Must be a problem with FCK editor

You can have category description and it will be displayed in this category view...

Guestbook - Maybe there is a wrong string, I will fix it...

In editing category, there is a TinyMCE editor from Joomla framework displayed. I take a look at it...

In Category Layout, yes I see description.
In Category LIST Layout, I do not see description.

If that is as intended, then I can work with it that way.

I also notice that, for example, my St Lucia Category, which has many SUBcategories, did not display until I put at least one photo into the St Lucia category. So even though it was not an empty category (it had subcategories with photos in them) it did not display until I put one photo into that St Lucia category.

Jan, this is a great extension. Thank you for making this. I hope I do not sound too critical as I am learning to use it.

There is a description only for:

- category layout
- image in detail view

not for categories view (you can use plugin, if you want to add description to categories view --> you can create an article with desctription and add into this article Phoca Gallery plugin ({phocagallery view=categories}), see:
https://www.phoca.cz/phocagallery/demo/i ... ery-plugin

Yes you right, but if you have enabled showing subcategories, it shows the subcategories in categories view and you can get the images throug these subcategories
