Hi there

I am trying to optimize the load time of my phoca gallery, which unfortunately is very slow. Using a lot of time on speed reports and so on, I can see that one of my problems is the file-size of my small thumbnails. Right now I have about 90 small thumbnails and the number is only to increase in the future as more images are added. So cutting down on the number is not an option.

I can see that some thumbnails are about 14k where others are only 3K. Is there a way to reduce this size without having to do everything all over with headings and descriptions of the images? My jpeg quality is set to a 100 percent and it might be one of the problems. But changing this would also change the quality of the large images (when pressing the thumbnail) and I want them to be as good as possible.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated

Hi, mostly size of thumbnails is not something which can slowdown your site. You should look at all Joomla! queries (made by extensions, plugins, modules, etc.) and test them.

Thanks for replying. I have really tried to investigate the speed problem - although it is still a hole new element of joomla for me. It is just, that the speed problem is only a problem in the two galleries on the site and not on any of the other pages. Further does the web speed reports tell me that the thumbs fills the majority of size and queries at page load.

I can see that the thumbs shown are the medium size - is there a way to set it to the small size thumbs (50 x 50)? maybe this could help.
