phpMyAdmin/SQL queries

Hello!
I am very much a beginner, but I would still love to use this fabulous component. I'm hoping you can help...
I read the manual thoroughly, but part of it is just beyond my knowledge - please forgive me if these questions sound idiotic!
Installation was fine, except I got the error messages you mention in the manual. I checked phpMyAdmin and saw that my tables weren't created. I know I need to create them manually. Once I'm inside my database, I click on: Run SQL query/queries on database. Then I am supposed to copy (as in copy and paste?) with what I find in the install.sql (install.bak) file.
The problem is, I can't open these files! I did open one but it appears to be blank/empty. The other I can't open at all Would it be possible for you to tell me, 1. if I'm in the correct place and 2. exactly what I'm supposed to be entering in the query? Maybe I could cut/paste it from this post instead if you put it here?
I know I will need to modify the names of 'TablePrefix_phocagallery' and 'TablePrefix_phocagallery_categories before continuing - as mentioned in the manual.
I'd really love to move forward, even as a beginner
Thanks!
Wendy
