I have installed phoca gallery after finding the correct method for J17 on this forum, having already followed the incorrect method on the website. However although after installation I get the phoca control panel, phoca gallery does not appear in the joomla components drop down menu. So I uninstall it and re-install and I get 'error cant build administrator menus', which is presumably why it does not appear in the components drop-down.

What to do now?

I'll answer my own question!

Since 'uninstall' does not remove the admin menus (which presumably it should), you go to the menu table in phpmyadmin and delete all menu items whose title involves phocagallery. Install then works successfully.

Ok, will be great to inform Joomla! developers, that uninstalling component does not remove admin menu.
