How to hide the number of files in a category, subcategory

I need to hide the number that appears behind every category - because it is confusing for my visiters. It seems that there are 0 files in main category, but in the subcategory there are several files.
We're also mixing all type of forms; pdf, electronic forms in PH Download - with some sucsess. The only problem we se, is that the electronic forms don't get included in the count of files - so to not confuse - we would like to remove this "counter".
In the settings to Ph Download I have set "no" for displaying the number of files - without any wanted result.
Do anyone know where I can edit this?
