modify layout to not display subcategories

Hi,
I went to Phoca Download -> layout and tried to change this view:

to get all categories shown without any subcategories, so I tried to modify the layout here:

But when I delete the {subcategories} or change this with {pdnosubcat} this view didn't change.
Help!
