Registered and Public problems

Hi,

I have some materials that i want to offer to download. Somer materials are available to the Public, whereas Registered members have access to the public material but also special exclusive material.

I set up a Section with Public access rights. Then I set up a Category in this section with Public Access Rights. Then I uploaded all of the public files and assigned them to this Section and Category and set their access level as Public.

Then I uploaded all of the exclusive files, assigned them to these Public section and category but set their access levels as Registered.

Then in my Main menu i created a public menu item that pointed to this Phoca Download Section and Category.

Then in my Members menu i created a registered menu item that pointed to this Phoca Download Section Category.

Everything displays as it should (i.e. only public files visible from main menu link; and public files plus member files visible from members menu link).

Everything also downloads fine when you are logged in as a member. HOWEVER, the problem is that the public who access the public files through the public main menu item pointing at the public section and public category and try to click on public files are told they must log in before download......!

Only when logged in can one access these public files in the public section in the public category from the public main menu but i don't understand why...

Any ideas please??

Many thanks

Tom

The only thing i can think of is that something hasn't updated...

This is because originally i had two categories - a registered one (for the members page) and a public one (for the main page), but then i changed my mind and reduced it to only one category so that i wouldn't have to manage two pages when i wanted to change something but only one...

It's the only thing i can think of but i'm still not confident even about this.

I just can't understand why i choose a public file in a public category in a public section accessed from a public menu link is telling me to log in....

Anyone else got any ideaas please?

I just decided to do some experiments...

I created a new Category that i put as public. Then i assigned one public file to it and pointed the menu item to it. I WAS able to download the public file.

Then I added a registered file to this new category and i WASN'T able to download the same public file without logging in as a member....

Surely this is a bug???

Hi, in Phoca Download you don't set if the file is for public or registered, you set it for the whole categories.

I have the same problem on my website. I'm working on Joom 1.5.23 and Phocadownload 1.3.9

For every file I want to download, I got the 'You must login to download' message. But the section, category and file are all public. But I also made this link in the menu 'Phocadownload all sections' and all files can be downloaded there. But not in the text as a link.

So I don't understand?

Hi, can I see the site where this occurs? Did you test it without SEF enabled? Is the Itemid (id of menu link which is assigned to text link, public?)

Hi,

Sorry for my late answer. It has something to do with the SEF. I updated Joomsef just before that. Last week, I turned off the SEF and then it worked. Both the Joomla SEF and the Artio gave the 'you should login to download'.

I can give you the link to the website, but I had to turn SEF off, because otherwise people can't download. Is there anything I can do to rebuilt the SEF to the right way, or should I ask at the Artio-forum? At first, I thought it was a Phoca-problem, that's hy I asked here :-)
