Is it possible to set up two separate menu items pointing to phoca gallery?

I need one separate gallery for photos and another for snapshots.

Have you considered storing photos in one category and snaphots in another and then using different "Phoca Gallery Category Layout" menu items to point to each of those categories separately?

But I need to have the same "Phoca Gallery Category Layout" menu items for both.

Also that would require me to have sub-sub category levels for each; is that possible?

I'm not sure why you would need to have the same "Phoca Gallery Category Layout" menu items for both (you could possibly just copy the menu items), but I can tell you that each "Phoca Gallery Category Layout" menu item can display sub-categories and further sub-sub-categories without problem.

There are only 2 options:

List of categories (Categories View)
List of images (Category view)

Since I have many categories of photos and snapshots, I need to use the "List of categories (Categories View)" for both, right?

Try this (assumes Joomla 1.5, I don't know if it is different with 1.6):
Menu | Main Menu | New | Phoca Gallery | Phoca Gallery Category Layout (set up as required, pointing to the base category that contains your photos)
Then repeat for your second menu, pointing to the base category that contains your snapshots.

I am running 1.6 and only have the following options:

List of categories (Categories View)
List of images (Category view)

But I tried this

I set my Photo Gallery menu to List of categories (Categories View), and Snapshot menu to List of images (Category view). I pointed the snapshot Category view to the top level snapshot category, and clicking it displays the sub categories in it.
