joomla 1.6 & User Groups

Hi,
Good to see that Phoca Download is almost ready for joomla 1.6
Now that joomla finaly have UAC, it would also be nice to see this used in Phoca Download.
How about giving user access to download categories based on user group memebership?
This way I would only assign users to groups, and give access rights to user groups.
Cheers

Trying the new 2.0rc with Joomla 1.6 I find it missing some important configuration parts..
Im trying to:
1) give a whole group access to upload files
2) give a whole group or individual users access to delete files (like managers)
But .. I find it lacking group support and have to select user(s) individually for the upload part.
For the deletion part, I cant figure out how to give users access to delete content in certain categories.
This is what i've done:
Made a new user
Made a new group (put user into it)
Made a new access view (put group + registered into it)
Selecting the user manually makes him able to upload files into one specific category (as wanted):
But nothing for deleting files in that category?
Am I doing something wrong or is this missing from the rc..?
Br,
Janich

Hi,
Thx for your suggestions, but this does not involve user groups, just access level and individual user rights.
With many download categories and users, currently we need to check users access rights in every download category when there is new users or users need diffent access permissions. And there is no view that shows who have access to what.
If it is possible to add user groups other than "all registered users" in the list of access rights things would be a bit easier.
Then we can define user groups in user manager (or group manager) and assign users to them where its more naturaly to manage this, and just add the user groups with access rights to its matching download categories.
Then there will be no more need to check users access right to file categories in phoca download when users need different permissions or adding new users. All this can then be done in user manager og user group manager, and with the extra benefit of beeing able to list who has access to what based on user group membership.
So my message is rely a new feature request.
Managing access rights is so much easier when you put users in user groups and manage access based on user groups and not individual users.

Hi, I will take a look at it. But first then I need to overwrite the extensions to Joomla! 1.6 then I can test the user permissons. (you need to care about different rights, so then it can happen, that you will check: users, users groups, access levels, menu links and then the server will consume all the cpu and memory for checking user rights only

)
I still need to do some tests with user rights too. For me, I have tested them for articles in Joomla! 1.6 and it didn't work for me as expected, so still need to be familiar with new ACL which is really difficult.
Anyway - added into the feature request list

Has there been any improvements on access rights for 1.6 users. Your component is totally awesome, but the Joomla 1.6 version is lacking the ACL features of Joomla 1.6. I know how complicated the ACL aspect is but am curious if there are plans for a release including this feature?

Hi, the ACL is working for frontend, you can set access and upload rights for Joomla! levels
In administration, the ACL is working in the level of accessing the component - you have different rights for managing it - check the permissions in options - all other as described above will take some time.

Hi there
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm struggling to follow exactly what you are saying.
I am using Joomla 1.6. I have created two user groups. What I want to do is only make some downloads available to the one group and other downloads to the other group. They should not have upload or delete rights.
If I understand correctly, this component will allow just that. Am I correct?

Well sorry for asking. Guss I should have tried the component. Works great

I now have two menu items, one to each category, that are only visible to registered users. Is it possible to make each one only visible to the user if he is in that group?
