I want to create a link from this directory to the directory of the images phocagallery. The question is what is needed throughout the process of uploading images? "I can avoid the creation of thumbnails?

there i no way to change the image folder without hacking the code.
Why do you want to disable thumbnails, you need them for the gallery to work properly: the large image for the detail views, the medium and small images for the thumbnails.

It is not modifying the code. I have a server where I keep all the photos. At the same server I have joomla with phocagallery. I have the photos in the albums of Phoca Gallery. I created a symbolic link to the directory of the photos in the directory phocagallery. That works but there is a problem with the directory depth. When access to 2 levels direcctorio direcctorio fails and returns to the original. And another problem is having to wait for loading images and generating thumbnails. If it were not for these problems is the best option for photo gallery.
