Well, I tried now with the

1: Go to you menu item and there is a 'hide categories setting' in the component - parameters. There enter the numbers of the categories you want to hide

and now it's almost exactly the thing I wanted.

The first page is nice, it's a category list, without the categories I wrote in the hide function, but then, when I click on a category a new page opens, and there isn't a category list anymore but only subcategories as clickable thumbnails (not like this https://www.phoca.cz/images/documentatio ... olumns.jpg anymore).

It's effectively the same as paddleandtrails, but I want to know if there is a possible solution so that all subcategory pages (except the albums itself when opened) would look like a category list?

The only solution I can think of, is to create menu subitems and create (by myself) a nice graphic frontpage(article) with links to these subcategories.

But even so, there would be a problem, because I have pictures ordered by years/months/albums and there would be too many submenu items in the end :/

Well, in the end I could have it just like it's now ... but if possible, I think this option could look nicer

P.S. if I use the plugin and remove the space, I get this error -> Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /var/www/vhosts/bajta.si/subdomains/stavnica/httpdocs/plugins/content/phocagallery.php on line 485

P.P.S. All this could be solved easier in my opinion, if there were a function, which would create more pages when you reach a certain amunt of listerd categories per page and so that the end result would look something similar to the look I have on the current page -> http://www.bajta.si/index.php/Fotografirali-smo/

One thing I did is to create the main categories and did not put files underneath of them. I started the folders with the subcategories I wanted.

For example. We run tours for our clients. So I created a category called adventure tours and a folder on the server of the same name, Adventure Tour. I left the folder on the server empty.

Then I created folders for each destination, Apostle Islands, Everglades, etc. Under these folder I am creating years, 2005, 2006, 2008, etc.

My desire is for people to come to my gallery and see the main categories, click on the main category and see where we have picture, from what tour. Then they can click on the tour they are interested in and browse through the various years we have done the tour. It is a little more drilling than I wanted but it accomplishes what I wanted. Albums of other images do not have as much sturcture.

I have everything torn apart right now because I was working on getting the look I wanted. The images were all practice images. I did not want to spend a lot of time sorting images if I did not keep the software, but it has turned out to be the best gallery I have found.

I wish the developers would consider a wordpress version of it (hint, hint) so I could use it on my blog.

I am sure there are other ways to accomplish this but this worked well for me. The developers may be rolling their eyes.

Again, all I did was told it not to show subcategories and to display empty folders. All in the parameters under the category view settings.

I didn't mean the space between phocagallery and view, but each one after the |.

I misunderstood how phoca gallery worked on the multiple add. I thought you had to pick a category for the photos to belong to during the import. So, what I initially ended up with was Adventure Tours-Adventure Tours-Apostle Islands.

During the redoing of my gallery I found I did not have to pick a main category as the software did this during an import based on file structure on the server. So, during my next and I hope final import I did not pick a main category and allowed the software to work as designed.

I bring it up here because it gives me exactly what I wanted, just the main catories on the front page of the galleries, and a much simplied file structure on the server. I now have it exactly like described in the documentation.

I did not do any coding at all. I avoid that, if I can, because I have to make sure that any future upgrades get the hack.


Anyway, I created the structure as shown:


Main Category (Adventure Tours-No pictures in this)
Sub-categories (Apostle Islands, Everglades, etc- No pictures here but there could be depending up structure of gallery)
sub-sub-category (these are broken down by year, and contain all the images)


I have other main categories as follows:

Main Category (Community Events)
Subcategory (Name of the event- and all images associated with the event)


I will have all this up there later today.

But this give me what I want. All I did was turn off display subcategories, and turn on display empty categories. You could do the same thing by listing the categories you do not want to display in the parameter form.

I hope this helps and I am not confusing the issue.

Phoca Gallery uses great Joomla! and its framework, so doing such gallery e.g. on wordpress or drupal will be more, more difficult ...

Just wishfull thinking. I use gallery 2 on my blog but it does not integrate into the theme as well as phoca does in joomla.

I think phoca is one of the easiest galleries to use.

First of all I'd like to thank you for a great Joomla component. Easy to use, fast and flexible. I really like it most among several other galleries I've tried so far. Well done.

With that said there are still few small things missing. One of them is an ability to select a top category for "Category List Layout". So instead of displaying all categories in entire gallery it'd do so for only selected subcategory and it's subs. Option to hide categories isn't optimal as each of such menu requires update when new category is created and doesn't belong to that branch.

As it looks I'm not the only one who is looking for that feature - do you have a plan to include this in near future?
