Hi, I was testing the latest version with mysql 4.4 and got no problems with subselects (installed some obsolete XAMPP version with mysql 4.4.x), so this means, there are some more settings in database which can prevent from successfully running of the subselected sqls 
(but no experiences there as I am not sql expert )
