Well, Benno, I believe I have root rights, but not sure I know how to use some of those rights. My web tech gives me pretty much free rein to have a go at learning JOOMLA! and I check in with him now and then. I have an email in to him now but in the meantime, give me a clue as to where this php.ini file is.
This little snag is hopefully my last problem before this web site is done. Remember I deleted these images so I could go back and change the configeration on the small images. Then went back to reload them and got the fatal error memory message.
thanks

Hi,
I have an email in to him now but in the meantime, give me a clue as to where this php.ini file is.
In which directory you find the php.ini, is highly dependent on your Linux version. On my server for example Suse Linux is installed and the php.ini file is found there in /etc/php5/apache2/ But be careful when you change something there and you are not so familiar with it. Make an advance copy of php.ini, and if possible, a backup of the entire server before you change anything.
Remember I deleted these images so I could go back and change the configeration on the small images. Then went back to reload them and got the fatal error memory message.
How do you have deleted the thumbnails? I ask this because I have the suspicion that all the error messages you get have to do with it.
Did you do it like this?
Kind regards,
Benno

This is what I did:
Phoca gallery - Images - select category - put checks in the small square box beside image - hit delete
No I do not have root rights.
You image did not load on your reply.
Thanks

Hi,
This is what I did:
Phoca gallery - Images - select category - put checks in the small square box beside image - hit delete
Ok, how did you organize your original images? Are all images of all category(s) stored in
/images/phocagallery or have you created subdirectories there? If so, then look with FTP in the directory:
/images/phocagallery/your_directory_were_the_original_images_of_the_deleted_thumbnails_are_stored/thumbs
If this directory is not empty, you see your thumbnails, which should be deleted. (And they still are, but only in the database)
They are for example named like this:
phoca_thumb_l_filename1.jpg
phoca_thumb_l_filename2.jpg
phoca_thumb_m_filename1.jpg
phoca_thumb_m_filename2.jpg
phoca_thumb_s_filename1.jpg
phoca_thumb_s_filename2.jpg
....and so on
delete these thumbnails first, and then the now empty directory
/thumbs itself.
Now go to backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Phoca Gallery Control Panel --> Phoca Gallery Images
--> Multiple Add
and create the thumbs again.
Kind regards,
Benno

The good news is I have located the files in FTP.
The bad news is I'm having trouble getting "permissions" to delete them.
As soon as I resolve that, I will delete them and follow your instructions and get back to you.
Thank you,
pslane

phoca_thumb_l_filename1.jpg
phoca_thumb_l_filename2.jpg
phoca_thumb_m_filename1.jpg
phoca_thumb_m_filename2.jpg
phoca_thumb_s_filename1.jpg
phoca_thumb_s_filename2.jpg
....and so on

Good news, Benno!
After struggling for days trying to find out why my FTP wouldn't give me permissions to move, delete, rename the files, my website host found out that JOOMLA! files cannot be deleted via FTP. They had to be deleted in Media Manager.
Took alot of time but I've deleted them and reloaded them. The 2 category thumbnails still ended up smaller than the others but at this point, I don't care. It will do.
Thank you so much for helping me with this.
If you get a minute please look on the gallery category page and see if you think any of this image moving, etc could have caused the
"warning" that is written across the page. The warning says something about phocagallery/views/categories and I have no idea what it means.

Thanks for being patient with me.

Did you tried what you are recommended by Jan about this issue?
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10837
I can get exactly the same error:

if I do this:

this is what Jan has meant.
Kind regards,
Benno

Sorry, somehow I missed the reply that Jan sent but I read it and checked the parameters. I must have forgotten to check the "notify me when reply is posted" button. I checked the parameters and the number was already 1 for columns.
Thanks

Okay, Benno. I'm going to try some of the suggestions that I'm getting from the JOOMLA! forum.
Thanks again for all your help.
Let's mark this one solved.
