How to translate into French

Post by fairyjo »

Hello,

I see a lot of languages but not French, is there a way to translate into French?
If I can help let me know.

Also if I were to make the translation of into French for the Phoca Cart myself, how long would it take? Your estimation.
And how does it work?

Thanks a lot for your answer, sincerely,
Joanie

Hi, for now there is no French translation yet :-( - so yes it must be done and it takes some time because there are over 1800 lines :-(

I have prepared French translation made by computer translator

http://www.phoca.cz/translation/fr-FR-com_phocacart-ini
http://www.phoca.cz/translation/fr-FR-c ... rt-sys-ini

which can be maybe used as a base for making real translation (for now I cannot say if it is better to translate from scratch from English file or use this one translated by computer :idea: )

For short strings:
COM_PHOCACART_REGIONS="Régions"
COM_PHOCACART_PAYMENTS="Paiements"
COM_PHOCACART_CURRENCIES="Devises"
COM_PHOCACART_TAXES="Taxes"

it can be Ok but for large sentences I think, it must be translated manually :idea:

How to create translation:

Hello Jan,

Thanks a lot for your reply. As I have never done this before, I tried to follow the steps you linked for me. Though they are for 2.5, so I hope it's still OK.
I have not changed anything of the computer translated files, just copied them and made the package.

1. Is the package looking OK to install? Will it work on the latest version of Joomla (3.8.5)? https://we.tl/J96oQmKDyI (download available for 7 days)

2. Is it OK to use it like that for a while so I can see how good (or bad) the computer translation is? And then make corrections on the go?

3. I must admit it's really hard to read in the notepad editor so it's not very appealing for the translation, by now and all the needed translation, I thought there would be online tools that help view and edit app translations, do you use any?

Looking forward to your answers and thank you for your support, sincerely,
Joanie

Hi,
1) there were some obsolete tags in the package, I have corrected it (I will change the documentation), see working package:
https://github.com/PhocaCz/PhocaCart/re ... lation.zip

2) Unfortunately I don't speak French so I cannot say how the machine translation is OK. Technically (with the new package) it works on the site:
Image but if the strings are right translated, I cannot say (mostly by difficult sentences I think, it will not work)

3) see:https://www.transifex.com/phoca/PhocaCart/ (but there you need to start from scratch)

Hi,

Just a few words to say that I actually installed the "computer translator" version and it is quite ok on many strings.

May I take it as a base to issue a corrected version, and if yes, can I just unzip it modify and zip it again in order to get it working and eventually useful for others too or should I proceed another way ?

Wow, makes me think I have not taken the time to try it yet, though I wanted to.

I'm putting this on my to-do list now.

Hi, yes, the best way is to check the computer translator version and edit it and copy the edited files to the ZIP (or make new ZIP), in case you will have some updated version, will be great to get a copy.

Thank you, Jan

I started working on the translation corrections but then noticed that since the update to Phoca Cart 3.1.3 / Joomla 3.8.13, with the language pack installed the multiple selects and media selection in the backend did not work anymore.

Can you please have a look to see what should be changed in the package to avoid that ?

Thanks in advance for your help.
