Download to phone changes file extension

Post by WellesbourneWheelers »

Hi Phoca

I'm using Download 3.2.3 on Joomla 3.10.10.

I have a set of .GPX files for bike routes that I've added as files in Download and published. They download perfectly on my PC when I tested it but a user has highlighted that when downloaded on a phone (Android and Apple) the filename gets corrupted to 'filename'.gpx.url and won't open in the Garmin app.

I can't see why this is as I've switched off the file type checking in Options>Downloads. Is there another setting I've missed?

Thanks

Hi, I don't think, this issue is somehow related to filetype checking. This seems like some problem on the phone device. Did you ask the user what happnes, when standard browser is used for the download?

Hi Jan

I'm able to reproduce the problem on my Android phone with Edge browser. When I select file in Phoca Download and click Download button it saves on my phone, comes up with prompt to open file but then opens file as XML file (sorry, I made a mistake in my first post, filename is changed to 'filename.gps.XML'

If I rename the file and remove the .xml extension it opens in my Garmin app okay

Thanks

Hi, are you sure, this behaviour is not some feature in your mobile phone? Are you able to test it with another mobile phone? (to locate where the problem occurs - if in mobile phone or on server)

It might be but I've not found any answer on Google. Maybe you can try it on your phone?

Hi, really no idea. I would say, if I was able to download the file correctly, maybe there is no problem on server. Did you try to download it with another phone?

I've tried it on my Android as well as someone else's _ _ and _ _. Same result :-(

Don't worry about it any more. There is a workaround to change the filename so I'll write it off to experience.

Thanks for your help, Jan
