Arranging Gallery Display by User

I manage the web site for a Photographic Society and I want to enable our members to upload and display their own photographic work.

Phoca Gallery has enabled me to generate an upload system by User Name but the method of display by categories and subcategories doesn't seem to lend itself to grouping everything by User.

I've "configured" Phoca Gallery with User as "Main Category" and allowed Users to group their work by "Subcategory".

I have then specified the main menu item as "List of Categories", but what is displayed is a number "User Name/Subcategory" boxes when what I would like is a "User Name" box (with Avatar) which when clicked would show the "Subcategories" boxes.

I hope this explains my problem clearly enough!

Many thanks.

are you aware of this documentation:

Yes, I've seen all that and got it all configured, I think!

If you go to this web page you can see the results of my configuration and my testing:

https://www.heswallphotosoc.co.uk/membe ... ded-images

What I had hoped for was that this page would show one box with my name and avatar (and one box for each other member when they start to use the system) which when clicked would then display what is shown here - there seems to be a category level missing.

By clicking on the "Screen Snapshots" you can view low resolution snapshots of the control panel tabs that I've used to create the categories and upload the images.

If this is how Phoca Gallery works then great, but not quite what I'd hoped for.

Many thanks.

Hi,
currently I'm out of office, I'll take a look at that later.

Hi,
thanks for the link and the screenshots.

May I ask you to provide an additional screenshot on how you would create a subcategory. This screenshot should cover the entire values and parameters the tab is requesting.

I also would like to check if I got your request correctly.
What I had hoped for was that this page would show one box with my name and avatar (and one box for each other member when they start to use the system) which when clicked would then display what is shown here
I understood you would expect the subcategories are shown by clicking on the box with the name of the member and the avatar - correct?
By clicking on one of these subcategories the contained images are shown - correct?

This is definitely what I would like, yes.
I understood you would expect the subcategories are shown by clicking on the box with the name of the member and the avatar - correct?
By clicking on one of these subcategories the contained images are shown - correct?
I wonder if I've got an incorrect configuration somewhere? As an experiment, I created a subcategory within a subcategory and added a couple of images. But this "subsubcategory" also appears on the first main page. If one then clicks on the associated subcategory there's no link to the "subsubcategory". Similarly using the Breadcrumbs to step backwards, there's no sign of the "subsubcategory".

Unsure what you're asking for here.
May I ask you to provide an additional screenshot on how you would create a subcategory. This screenshot should cover the entire values and parameters the tab is requesting.
Everything I've created has been done through the Front end. In order to create a Subcategory one has to select a Main Category or a Subcategory. If necessary, I can obviously snapshot Back End parameters.

I'll go and experiment by changing parameters again and see what happens.

Many thanks for your help.

I've cracked it!!!

The problem was that I had specified that empty categories were not to be displayed and I have no images directly under the main category.

Some other parameter changes have also fixed the apparent non-display of subcategory and "subsubcategory" links.

Many thanks and hopefully not given you any sleepless nights over it!

Definitely got what I want, thank you. Great Component.

However, two further queries (sorry!)

1. I have Category 5 (screen shot images) marked as "hide" in Categories View (Global Configuration) but it is still being displayed.
2. Is there any way of getting the Image Title displayed under the "Switch (Swap) Image Settings" in Category View (Global Configuration.)

Thanks again.

Hi,

thanks for your response.
sleepless nights
not at all, I'm a "night owl" :)
Category 5 (screen shot images)
Setting "Display Subcategories" in Global Configuration has a different effect. If set to "Yes" all subcats are displayed in the Catogories View (to test this you need to define a couple of subcats).

To hide a specific subcat try components -> Phoca Gallery -> Categories, then unpuplish item.
Image Title displayed under
I'm sorry, I didn't get your point. Is your intention to hide/unhide the titles of all images?

Thanks for your reply. I've "unpublished" the category I no longer want displayed, so that's OK.

With regard to my other query, if you look at this web page:

https://www.heswallphotosoc.co.uk/membe ... e-district

As you move the mouse over each thumb nail, the large image changes and this is generated by the "Switch (Swap) Image Settings" option. If you look at the page as a whole the image titles are shown in tiny print below the thumb nail. What I thought would be nice would be able to see the title displayed below the large image as well.

I very pleased as it is, just putting a suggestion forward, which I'm sure at least one member of the photographic club will ask for!!

Very many thanks.
