If I try to upload in the backend with Java I get the error:
Java 1.5 or higher plugin required.
Tested it on a clean Joomla 3.8.1 installation, with Firefox, Opera, Chrome and internet explorer and on two different servers.
Joomla! 3.8.1 Stable
Phoca Gallery 4.3.6
Server
Oracle Java 8 Update 151 (64-bit)

Re: Java 1.5 or higher plugin required
Hi Rob,
there is no need to use Java. Just go to: Components > PG > images > Multiple Add > Multiple Upload
Kind regards, Christine

I know that the PHP upload works.
But the Java upload should be able to resize images before they are uploaded.

Hi, I think you need to allow the plugin to run in your Java runtime environment (it is disallowed to run in security options)

But for now I don't have any news as this feature is in fact very obsolete
